Well, I actually just finished my 4 mile run. Normally the long run is suppose to be on Saturday, not Sunday, but some unexpected sickness kind of put a delay on it. I started feeling bad at work on Friday and have felt bad all weekend. I dont' think it's anything serious, but it's still hard to go run when your head is pounding and feel so tired. So I waited until today. The run actually went pretty well though. This week I went out and bought a watch. It's a crazy thought that i've been running consistently for almost a year and haven't bought a running watch to keep track of how fast I run. I ran the four miles today in 36.5 minutes. Which is a little over an average of 9 minutes per mile. Thats a good pace for me especially since i've not felt well. I was excited to see that!
One thing I haven't mentioned yet is the fact that Michael is running this race too. We can't necessarily run together at the same pace, but a lot of times we will mark out the same route and run it at the same time, but different speeds. Michael and I ran the 10k together and I dont know if I could have made myself keep training if it wasn't for his encouraging words. When I decided to run the Half Marathon, Michael didn't even question whether he would run it too. I'm so thankful to have someone that wants to be a part of these things with me and to keep me on track when I may not feel like pushing myself.
Last night Michael and I went over to our friends Sarah and Adam's house. I always love going over there because Sarah is a very experienced runner and is actually running her first marathon next weekend! She's been someone I can "talk running" with and ask her questions, since she's ran several half marathons. It got me even more pumped after talking to her. I will never forget something that Adam (her husband) said to me last night. We were all talking about how training for a race is so hard and you really do have to give up a lot of things. So Adam made the comment, "The success isn't actually running the race on race day.......what really matters is all the the weeks and months that get you to that point." "Thats the real success". I was thinking about that more today and it's so true. Adam and I realized that the success consists of, not going out with your friends cause you have to run the next day, or getting up at 6am to run when you would rather sleep. Or running on days that you feel sick and you could easy make excuses not to run, and turning down invites because it's your day to train. This is all of the stuff that will get me to 13 miles.......
